Overview

Kindlume is a private iPhone app that helps you stay mindful of the important people in your life. You can add notes, reminders, and timeline entries — everything you enter stays on your iPhone. There is no cloud connection, no server infrastructure, and no data transfer to third parties. This privacy policy describes in detail what data Kindlume processes, where it is stored, and what rights you have. Because Kindlume deliberately avoids centralised data storage, the scope of data processing is minimal. Your privacy is not a feature we added — it is the foundation on which the app is built.

Privacy on This Website

This website is delivered as a static site without user accounts, a database, or server-side application logic. It sets no cookies, embeds no advertising, and uses no analytics, tracking, session recording, or external fonts. When the site is requested, the hosting provider processes connection data technically required to deliver and protect it. This may include the IP address, time, requested file, referrer, and browser identifier. The legal basis is Article 6(1)(f) GDPR; the legitimate interest is secure and reliable delivery. Technical logs are retained only as long as required for operation, abuse prevention, and legal obligations.

Local Language Preference

When you use the language switch, your selected language may be stored only in your device's local browser storage. The preference is not transmitted to Kindlume, linked to a profile, or used for analytics. You can remove it at any time by deleting this website's local data in your browser. The website also works when browser storage is blocked.

Locally Stored Data

Kindlume stores only the data that you yourself consciously enter. This includes the names of people you add, personal notes and thoughts you write about those individuals, important dates such as birthdays or anniversaries that you record, and reminders that you set yourself. In addition, you can create timeline entries that document specific events or encounters with a person. All of this content is stored exclusively in the local app database on your device. Kindlume does not collect location data, device identifiers, usage statistics, or any other metadata beyond your actual inputs. There is no user profile and no identification of individual users. The app works entirely without a login and without any form of user identification.

Storage Location

All data you enter into Kindlume is stored exclusively in the local app database on your iPhone. This means the data exists physically only on your device and nowhere else. Kindlume is planned around SwiftData for local iOS persistence, so people, notes and reminders can remain directly on the device. This data is never transferred to external servers, never stored in a cloud, and never sent over the internet. If your iPhone is encrypted — which is the default on modern iOS devices — your Kindlume data is also protected by device encryption. Even if someone gained physical access to your device, they could not read the data without your passcode. This local-first storage is not an accident but a core design principle of Kindlume. We believe that sensitive personal information should not reside on third-party servers over which you have no direct control.

No Account

Kindlume requires no registration, no account, and no sign-in. There is no email verification, no password for the app, and no user profile that needs to be created. You download the app, open it, and can start using it right away. Because there is no account, there are no account details that could be stored, transmitted, or compromised. The app does not know who you are — it only knows the content you enter yourself. This also means there is no way to identify or track you as a user. The decision to forego an account is not a limitation but a deliberate design choice in favour of your privacy.

No Cloud

Kindlume does not use any cloud service. There is no Kindlume server where your data is stored, and the app never sends information to external servers at any point. This applies to all features of the app: your notes, your people list, your dates, and your timeline entries are never uploaded to or synchronised with a cloud. If you want to use Kindlume on multiple devices, the data will not be automatically exchanged between those devices because there is no cloud synchronisation. Instead, Kindlume offers a local backup feature that allows you to manually back up and restore your data. This backup also remains entirely under your control. The decision against cloud storage is deliberate: it guarantees that no one — neither us nor any third-party provider — has access to your personal data.

No Analytics

Kindlume contains no analytics SDKs and collects no usage statistics. There is no Google Analytics, no Firebase, no Mixpanel, no Amplitude, and no other tools that would track how you use the app. We do not know how often you open the app, which screens you visit, how long you stay in the app, or which features you use. There are no session recordings, no heatmaps, and no conversion funnels. This decision is intentional: your interactions with the people who matter to you are a private matter. How, when, and how often you engage with certain individuals is nobody's business. Without analytics data, we may learn less about usage patterns, but we consider this trade-off the right path.

No Tracking

Kindlume does not engage in any form of tracking. The app contains no advertising trackers, no crash reporting services that transmit user data, and no other components that would observe or record your behaviour within the app. There are no device fingerprinting techniques, no advertising identifiers (IDFA), and no form of user tracking whatsoever. Neither we nor third parties create profiles of your usage behaviour. There is no advertising network analysing your behaviour and no data broker collecting information about you. Kindlume does not track where you are, what you do, or how you use the app. This absence of tracking is not a by-product but a fundamental principle that informed every decision during development.

No Contact Import

Kindlume does not access your address book. The app does not import contacts from the iOS Contacts app and does not read any contact information from your device. Every person you add in Kindlume, you create manually. You enter the name yourself and decide what notes and data you want to save about that person. There is no automatic synchronisation with your address book and no background processes that read contact data. This means Kindlume never has access to phone numbers, email addresses, or other information from your address book. The people in Kindlume exist exclusively within the app and are not cross-referenced with external contact databases.

No Calendar Import

Kindlume does not access your calendar. The app does not import events from the iOS Calendar app and does not read any calendar events from your device. If you want to add a birthday or anniversary in Kindlume, you do so manually. The app has no permission to access calendar data and will not request such permission in the future. There is no automatic synchronisation with your calendar and no background processes that read calendar data. This means Kindlume never knows what appointments you have in your calendar, except for the dates you enter yourself. Your calendar data remains private and is untouched by Kindlume.

No Messenger

Kindlume is not a messenger and does not send messages. The app contains no chat function, no message delivery, and no way to send content to other people. There are no notifications sent to other users and no communication between app users. Everything you enter in Kindlume stays on your device. The app has no function to share, send, or otherwise transmit data. If you write notes about a person, those notes are visible only to you. Kindlume is a personal tool for your own thoughts and memories — not a social network and not a communication tool.

Apple StoreKit

Kindlume uses Apple StoreKit exclusively for processing in-app purchases, specifically for the purchase of Kindlume Plus. StoreKit is the framework provided by Apple that enables in-app purchases on iOS devices. When you decide to purchase Kindlume Plus, this purchase process is handled entirely by Apple. Kindlume itself receives neither your payment data nor personal information such as credit card details or account numbers. Apple only shares with us the information necessary to provide the purchased feature, such as a purchase confirmation and the expiration status of the subscription. This information is processed by Apple in accordance with their own privacy policies. We have no influence over what data Apple collects or stores during the purchase process. For any questions regarding Apple's data processing, we refer you to Apple's privacy policy.

Local Notifications

Kindlume can display local notifications on your iPhone, for example to remind you of upcoming birthdays or other reminders you have set. These notifications are generated exclusively on your device and require no server connection. No data is sent to external servers to trigger notifications. Reminders are scheduled in advance on your device and displayed at the specified time. You always have full control over notification settings and can disable reminders in the app or in your iOS settings. If you close the app or disable notifications, no further alerts will be sent. There is no server sending push notifications to your device.

Password-Protected Backups

Kindlume offers the ability to create a password-protected backup of your data. This backup is initiated manually by you and stored locally on your device or in a location of your choosing. The backup is encrypted with a password that you set yourself. This password is not stored in the app and is not transmitted to us. If you forget the password, there is no way to decrypt the backup or recover the password. Since we never receive either the password or the backup itself, we cannot provide support for forgotten passwords. Please keep your backup password safe. The backup is entirely your responsibility and resides on your device — nowhere else.

Markdown Export

Kindlume offers the ability to export your data as a Markdown file. This export is readable and not encrypted. This means that anyone with access to the exported file can read its contents. The Markdown export is not intended as a backup in the sense of a password-protected backup, but rather as an export format you can use for your own purposes. Please make sure to store the export in a secure location if it contains sensitive information. Kindlume does not store the export — the file is saved on your device and is your responsibility. There is no automatic backup of exports.

App Lock

Kindlume offers an App Lock that protects access to the app using Face ID or Touch ID. When you enable App Lock, the app will only open after successful biometric authentication. This feature uses the local biometrics interface of iOS and does not send any biometric data to external servers. Neither your facial features nor your fingerprint are captured, stored, or transmitted by Kindlume. Authentication is processed exclusively by iOS on your device. If you wish to disable App Lock, you can do so at any time in the app's settings. App Lock is an optional feature that provides additional security but is not required to use the app.

Deleting Data

Deleting your data in Kindlume is straightforward and takes effect immediately. You can delete individual entries directly in the app: swipe on a person, a note, or a timeline entry and select the delete option. The entry will be removed from your device immediately and irrevocably. If you want to delete all data at once, you can do so through the in-app settings. Alternatively, you can delete the app itself from your iPhone, which automatically and completely removes all data associated with the app since it is stored exclusively on the device. No contact with us is required to have your data deleted, because we do not possess any of your data that we could delete. Once the data has been removed from your device, it exists nowhere else. There are no servers from which it could be restored and no backups on Kindlume's side that could contain your information.

External Links

Kindlume may contain links to external websites, for example in the imprint or on the support page. When you tap on such a link, the target page opens in your browser. Kindlume has no influence over the content of linked pages and assumes no responsibility for their privacy practices or content. Accessing external links takes place outside the app, and Kindlume does not transmit any data to the linked pages. Please inform yourself about the privacy practices of the respective external websites. The inclusion of links does not constitute an endorsement of the linked content. If you notice linked content that is illegal or objectionable, please let us know.

Support

If you have questions about Kindlume or this privacy policy, you can contact us at tshfm78@gmail.com. We endeavour to respond to enquiries promptly. Please do not send sensitive content, personal notes, or backup passwords via email. Email is not a secure means of communication for confidential information. Describe your concern in general terms and do not share specific data from the app that could reveal information about individuals or personal content. If we need additional information to answer your question, we will ask you specifically and suggest a secure communication channel if necessary.

Email Requests and Retention

If you contact us by email, we process your email address, message content, and technically transmitted details only to handle your request. Depending on the matter, the legal basis is Article 6(1)(b) or (f) GDPR. Support messages are deleted once the request is complete unless statutory retention duties apply. Please do not transmit private app content or backup passwords.

Your Rights

Where we process your personal data, you have the rights provided by the GDPR, including access, rectification, erasure, restriction, portability, and objection. You may withdraw consent at any time for the future and lodge a complaint with a data protection supervisory authority. No request to us is needed for app content stored locally in Kindlume because that content is not transmitted to us and can be deleted directly on your device.
